Third International Conference on Clean Mobility and Energy

The University of California, Davis Institute of Transportation Studies and Ghent University will co-host a two-day international conference in Ghent, Belgium on 15-16 September 2026, continuing the tradition of bringing together senior policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers from Europe, the United States, and beyond.  The conference will have two overarching objectives: 1) bring science to policy and 2) strengthen transatlantic collaborations among researchers, policymakers, and industry. Now, more than ever, we must be intentional about building a transatlantic community to address common goals and interests.

The program will spotlight policy-relevant, practical, solution-oriented pathways to advance clean transportation while boosting economic and industrial competitiveness.  The conference is organized around three main tracks:

• The future of urban mobility at a time of digitalization, artificial intelligence and vehicle automation.

• Opportunities and challenges in vehicle electrification and e-mobility.

• The evolving role of biofuels and e-fuels in various sectors, including shipping and aviation.

The conference brings together cutting-edge researchers, industry representatives, national and international policymakers. The programme will feature keynote speeches, policy panel discussions, podium presentation sessions and poster sessions. Participants will plan follow-up workshops on key issues and topics. Selected contributions from the conference will be invited to special issues in leading transportation policy journals
